Winter Solstice 2022

The Winter Solstice is a powerful time of year. Many different cultures and faiths celebrate it throughout the world.

Winter Solstice 2022 is on December 21st, the day of the longest night. One of the best reasons to celebrate this Solstice here in the Northern Hemisphere is because we begin to bring more light into our lives from this day until the summer solstice! That IS something to get excited for

Our ancient ancestors built temples and monolithic structures worldwide to align with this particular day of the year when we move through the longest night and enter into a new journey around the Sun.

In many cases, it is truly a “new year.” However, I always take time on this special day to honor the journey of my last “solar year.” And I begin to dream into the new year’s solar year with goals and intentions of showing up better and stronger. For myself, my friends, my family, and my work.

Here are a few things you can do to prepare and intend for the Winter Solstice.

Reflect and Journal

The Winter Solstice is a beautiful day to reflect on the past solar cycle. Ruminate on the lessons you’ve learned and celebrate all the beauty in your life. However, it’s equally important to acknowledge the challenges you have experienced and the lessons they have taught you.

OMG, can you believe it is almost three years since the world turned on its head? These last three years have been a challenge worldwide, so reflecting on the positives in our lives is essential!

Grab a journal and write about your year in summary! What are the most memorable moments? Good and Bad. Journal any reflections you have about this past year. What are you ready to change within yourself? Your relationships? Your career? Your Spiritual Practice?

Then, grab a piece of paper and an envelope. Write a letter about all you wish to work with in 2023. Where would you like to see growth and positive change? Please put this letter in the envelope and seal it up. Date it for Winter Solstice 2023 and place it somewhere safe, but wait to open it until next year. Rinse and repeat each year, but read your letter from the previous year as you do your reflection journaling.

Clean your Space

Each year on this day, I create my sacred space. I take extra time to clean my home and clear the energy with sage or palo santo to begin the next solar cycle with clarity. YES, clean your space. Get that broom, vacuum, and duster out of the closet and clean up!

Also, this is an excellent time to go through your living space and donate or toss anything that is undesirable or serves a purpose. The more we can lighten the physical space around us, the better we can feel.

Sometimes we are holding onto items that are draining us. Like the bottle of awful liquor your grandma gave you eight holidays ago, you will never drink it. Every time you look at an item and think about how you are not utilizing it, it takes up unnecessary space in your brain! Let that shit go!

Meditation or Ceremony

Then at some point during the day of the Winter Solstice 2022, you want to make some space for yourself! After you have cleaned up, set your intentions, take a meditative moment to sit quietly and call in your spirit guides and beloved ancestors in Spirit to sit with you. Candles and incense might be good in your space—some pictures of the people you love and be around you in Spirit.

You are welcome to join me live on the Solstice for a lovely guided meditation in which we do all the things on zoom! There is power in working with numbers! Learn more and get registered here: Winter Solstice Event

Or work in your own beautiful sacred way! There is no wrong way to do this. Just let your intuition guide you!

I am always surprised by what I intend and reflect on each Solstice in the review. Sometimes, it is interesting to see how things may not work out how you planned, but they are better!!! That is why I like to leave a little wiggle room for Spirit to sprinkle some magic!

Give this a try, and make it a yearly tradition! And if you have been doing this with me these past years, it is time to dig out last year’s intentions and begin again.

I wish you all a beautiful beginning to a new solar year! Happy Solstice, Merry Yule, with a heart-breath of love!
